When it comes to the number of new start-ups in Ohio, 2020 was a record-breaking year. The upward trend is expected to continue through 2021. Despite the economic challenges brought by the pandemic, many Ohio-based entrepreneurs were able to launch new start-ups in the state in 2020. The Ohio Secretary of State's Business Services Division received 171,073 new business registrations, breaking the previous record of 130,621 in 2019. The uptrend continues in 2021.
With almost 19,000 new business filings in March 2021, Ohioans set a new high. This represents a 47 percent increase over March of the previous year. Some authorized organizations, such as the Central Ohio Small Business Development Center, have made major contributions to the state's startup growth.
